You’ve heard about some of the artists that we’re most excited for this year. Now, get ready to hear from the artists themselves as we shine a spotlight on their personality, the year just past, and their most anticipated musical artists. This week, we catch up with Maggie Lindemann, who caught our attention with her debut EP PARANOIA earlier this year.
A compelling body of eight tracks that showcase a spectrum of sounds from rock to alternative-pop, Maggie shows herself as a force to be reckoned with as she brings her own twisted sound into anthemic capacities to capture your whole attention. From the driving opening Knife Under My Pillow, to the vulnerable Loner, with an aggressive kick to the teeth in between with GASLIGHT!, the EP captures a multitude of emotions and tackles the thoughts that haunt our heads while maintaining an impenetrable exterior. While the drums pound away and tear down your walls in Crash And Burn, the acoustic guitar of Love Songs will hold you in a gentle cradle and mend all of your innermost wounds, before finale It’s Not Your Fault spins the conflicting feelings and inner turmoil into a searing ending that will stay lodged your head. With an honest charisma powering her tracks, we could not resist Maggie’s allure and as she gears up to livestream a full play-through of her EP on April 9th, now is a good a time as any to catch up with her.
What’s integral to the work of an artist?
I mean I think it’s different for everybody but at least for me I think it’s really important to have a team around me that really gets me and trusts my vision.
Are there any behind-the-scenes stories of recording your PARANOIA EP that you can share with us?
Haha ya there’s a few! My favourite one though is when we were writing Scissorhands and were trying to think of a cool “scissor” sound. We didn’t have any scissors or knives so that noise u hear is actually forks haha.
How would you describe the project to someone at a dinner party that’s never heard of you?
I would say it’s upbeat pop punk that gives a nostalgic but still a current feel.
What advice would you give to your pre-lockdown self?
START WORKING OUT!!! Stop being lazy and go workout.
How would you sum up your 2020 in one sentence?
I got a lot done lol.
Name one thing you can’t imagine your life without.
Music.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I’m really good at horseback riding lol.
What are your hopes and dreams for 2021?
To hopefully be able to do more performances and even hopefully some live stuff in person!!!
Which artists excite you the most this year?
ME!! lol
And finally, what does your music say about you?
It’s my whole life. My music is everything about me and who I am. Every song says something different about me.
