Alt-pop wizards Valley return with the end of summer anthem Oh shit…are we in love? to mark the announcement of their brand new EP, Last Birthday, set for release on October 1st via Capitol Records. The new single arrives as the fourth track from the EP, following the band’s previous hits Like 1999, SOCIETY and Tempo.
With a spark of true emotion, Valley offer the thrill of infatuation with Oh shit…are we in love?. Sweetly subtle yet powerfully evocative, the track radiates warmth and passion as the band paints the air with splashes of pop aesthetics and light indie styles. Uplifting instrumentals combine with shimmering synths to create a sun-kissed, adventurous sonic palette, topped with lush vocal harmonising that you won’t be able to resist. Tinged by the summer sunlight, it’s an incredibly hooking and euphoric song, bringing the perfect accompaniment to the last days of summer.
On the new song, lead vocalist Rob Laska explains:
‘Oh shit…are we in love?’ in a way feels like Valley’s first love song while simultaneously playing the role of an end of summer anthem. We find it’s sometimes tricky as songwriters to write about love in a form that feels honest but not too kitschy or on the nose. We knew we wanted to write something that people can really sing with us live and make it a special moment. Lyrically, ‘Oh shit’ is about the realization that what you’ve been looking for the whole time has been right in front of you. The happiness of finding your person, whether that’s a significant other or a best friend or your dog.
